PRESIDENT'S LETTER

Happy New Year everyone! I hope everyone has stayed safe during this crazy time we are in.  As of now the plan for 2021, we are planning on continuing to do our meetings virtually. If things change and start to open up, we will reevaluate going back to in-person meetings.

We sent out a survey in December and resent it in January. This survey is to help us decide what topics that the chapter would like to pursue this year for our virtual meetings and what kind of speakers everyone would like to see. Please take a few minutes to fill out the 4 questions. We are working on a few things that will be great for the chapter, so please stay tuned.  Feel free to reach out to me anytime.

MEMBER RECOGNITION
stephanienearymotm_1797771.png
September 2020 WISE Member of the Month: Stephanie Neary
Stephanie was awarded the September 2020 WISE MotM award for her accomplishments within, and how she has influenced health and safety throughout, her workplace: “one of the most rugged environments: heavy manufacturing and shipbuilding.”

Stephanie was the lead health and safety analyst for new aircraft carrier construction for over five years. She was also part of a cross-functional team who developed and formalized training for critical job operations that are only performed once every six years. In this time Stephanie worked tirelessly to build relationships with all employee levels from mechanics to directors and superintendents to accomplish their goals and keep their employees safe.

Hired with no manufacturing or health and safety experience, Stephanie has learnt on the job, completed her studies in the classroom (Master’s degree in OHS), and was part of the team that was honored with a President’s Model of Excellence award for their extraordinary contributions to the company’s mission to build good ships for the US Navy. Stephanie is now one of the senior health and safety analysts in her department.

Rising Stars of Safety Award-2020: Kyle Martin

Age: 34

Safety/Risk Manager Cox Communications Chesapeake, VA

“Kyle worked with Safety-Reports.com to build a standardized observation checklist and built training curriculum to roll out the program. Due to his rapport and support he gained from our largest operating function in the region, field operations, he was able to roll out the observation process for all leaders. They bought in and leaders showed ownership by mandating, from the VP level down, they would conduct monthly observations. The first year of the observations went well and six different projects, due to the observations, ranging from standardization of foreign voltage detectors to purchasing hands-free devices for all our techs, emerged.”
