Purpose and Scope of Job:
The EHS Coordinator will assist the EHS manager and is responsible for planning, implementing, and overseeing Sumitomo’s employee safety program. Their main duty is to ensure that the company is complying and adhering to Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) guidelines to reduce work-related injuries.
Essential Functions (other duties may be assigned):
- Plan, develop, conduct, and maintain records of occupational health and safety related training activities and documents
- Work collaboratively with other personnel to develop job specific safety programs, procedures, and the associated required training
- Assist the EHS manager in planning, developing, implementing, and managing health and safety programs and performance in the workplace
- Work with HR to set up a new employee on-boarding process for safety and promote a behavioral based safety environment
- Serves as primary contact with human resources for injury and incident notification, investigation, and worker’s compensation case management
- Assist the EHS manager with workplace audits and inspections to identify and alleviate all hazards that affect or could potentially affect the health and safety of employees
- Participate and assist with safety committee meetings and departmental meetings
- Daily interaction with managers, supervisors, and staff. Periodic interaction with local emergency response groups and regulatory agencies
- Performs other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree (Science, Engineering or related Environmental, Safety and Health Field preferred), and/or equivalent job related experience
- Safety Certification is a plus
- OSHA, EPA and DOT Regulatory knowledge
- Experience in a manufacturing or operations environment
- Excellent organizational and communication skills
- Experience tracking EHS/safety matrix and other databases
- Excellent public speaking, computer and software understanding
